Further Reading
I'd love this to be a series of links to pages telling you all you
ever needed to know about snow, skiing, the area and the weather.
However, there isn't that much material out there on the net, and
it would be unfair to neglect all the fine material which has been
produced in the past on paper - those trees shouldn't have died
for nothing.
Skiing skills
- Backcountry Skiing
-
Lito Tejada-Flores
Sierra Club Books
1981
ISBN 0 87156 287 1
The best all-round ski-instruction book I have seen for both nordic and
alpine ski touring. This Supercedes "Wilderness Skiing" by the same
author, and may in turn have been superceded itself - in which case the
replacement is likely to be even better again !
- Free-Heel Skiing
-
Paul Parker
Diadem
1988
ISBN 0 906371 67 8
An excellent book, especially if you plan skiing powder !
- Total Telemarking
-
Brad English
East River Publishing Co.
1984
ISBN 0 915789 00 0
Perhaps orientated a little towards nordic skiers at downhill areas
- Cross-country downhill and other nordic mountain skiing techniques
-
Steve Barnet

1983
ISBN 0 914718 84 3
The only book in this list I don't have to hand - but comes recommended
by other sources
- Wilderness Skiing and Winter Camping
-
Chris Townsend
Ragged Mountain Press (McGraw Hill)
1994
ISBN 0 87742 397 0
A good introduction to more serious touring - camping and
snowholing is unlikely to be needed in an area with so many hostelries
- Ski Mountaineering
-
Peter Cliff
Unwin Hyman
1987
ISBN 0 04 440085 3
Excellent general manual - though for more serious mountains
- Skiing Real Snow
-
Martyn Hurn
The Crowood Press
1987
ISBN 1 85223 021 5
Much more for off-piste downhillers, but good advice on poor snow

Not a guidebook at all, but some interesting ideas of places to go
